The Meeting of Antony and Cleopatra, painted around 1745–47 by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, is a vibrant oil sketch capturing the legendary first encounter between the Roman general Mark Antony and the Egyptian queen Cleopatra. Tiepolo created this quick, energetic study as a preparatory step toward a much larger fresco cycle, part of his celebrated decorative program depicting the story of Antony and Cleopatra for the Palazzo Labia in Venice.
Rendered with rapid, fluid brushwork, the sketch captures the theatrical splendor and dynamic movement that would define the finished monumental composition, showcasing Tiepolo's genius for choreographing grand historical narrative even at the preliminary stage. The luminous color and sweeping diagonal composition reveal the working methods of the great Venetian decorator at the height of his powers, translating a swift study into the blueprint for one of his most celebrated fresco cycles.
Held in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, this museum-quality stretched canvas reproduction is printed on premium matte canvas and hand-wrapped around a solid 0.75-inch gallery wrap frame — ready to hang and built to last.
