Christ Crowned with Thorns (Ecce Homo), and the Mourning Virgin (Mater Dolorosa) is a devotional diptych composition by Adriaen Isenbrant, the distinguished Flemish master active in Bruges during the early sixteenth century. Painted circa 1530–40, this deeply moving work presents two of the most spiritually charged figures in Christian iconography: Christ enduring his Passion and the Virgin Mary consumed by grief. Isenbrant, a follower of Gerard David, inherited the refined Netherlandish tradition of luminous color, exquisite detail, and tender psychological expression.

The paired imagery invites quiet contemplation, each figure rendered with extraordinary sensitivity — Christ's sorrowful dignity set against the Virgin's restrained yet profound anguish. The subtle modeling of flesh, the delicate rendering of tears, and the harmonious palette exemplify the highest standards of Early Netherlandish oil painting. Originally executed on wood panel and later transferred to canvas, the work reflects the material history and careful preservation typical of great Renaissance masterpieces held in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

This museum-quality stretched canvas reproduction faithfully captures every nuance of Isenbrant's masterwork. Printed on premium matte canvas and hand-wrapped over a sturdy 0.75-inch wooden frame with a classic gallery wrap finish, it arrives ready to hang — bringing centuries of devotional beauty into your space.
