Christ Crowned with Thorns (Ecce Homo), and the Mourning Virgin (Mater Dolorosa), painted ca. 1530–40 by the Bruges master Adriaen Isenbrant, presents Christ and his mother in close, half-length, nearly life-size confrontation with the viewer. Christ appears as the Ecce Homo — presented by Pilate to the people of Jerusalem, crowned with thorns and marked by the wounds of the flagellation — paired with the Virgin's silent grief in a diptych-like format meant for isolated, intense devotional contemplation.

Isenbrant, one of the leading painters in Bruges after the death of Gerard David, specialized in exactly this kind of austere, emotionally direct religious image, produced in some number for private patrons across the Netherlands. By placing the viewer directly before both figures, the painting collapses the distance between spectator, judge, and mourner into a single devotional experience.

Held in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, this masterwork is presented here as a premium stretched canvas reproduction, printed on museum-quality matte canvas and hand-wrapped around a solid 0.75-inch gallery wrap frame — ready to hang and built to last.
