The Boulevard Montmartre on a Winter Morning, painted in 1897 by Camille Pissarro, is one of fourteen canvases the artist devoted to this grand Parisian thoroughfare, viewed from his room at the Grand Hôtel de Russie. Surveying the scene from his elevated window between February and April of that year, Pissarro marveled at the sweeping, almost bird's-eye view of carriages, omnibuses, and pedestrians threading between the boulevard's grand trees and buildings.
Here, hazy winter sunlight, fog, and traces of snow soften the bustling scene into a symphony of atmospheric grays and blues, the boulevard's strong central perspective anchoring a composition alive with quick, vibrating brushstrokes. Pissarro's high viewpoint and serial method — repeating the same view under shifting light and weather — reflect the mature Impressionist fascination with modern urban experience as a subject worthy of sustained, scientific observation.
Held in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, this museum-quality stretched canvas reproduction is printed on premium matte canvas and hand-wrapped around a solid 0.75-inch gallery wrap frame — ready to hang and built to last.
